Mumbai: A very strange case has come to light from Maharashtra. Four persons have been arrested for allegedly raping a Bengal monitor lizard (Monitor lizard) in Sahyadri Tiger Reserve near Gothane village in the state. It is being told that the accused are hunters. They allegedly entered the core zone of Sahyadri Tiger Reserve in the Gabha area of Gothane and raped the Monitor lizard.

The accused have been identified as Sandeep Tukram, Pawar Mangesh, Janardan Kamtekar and Akshay Sunil. The Maharashtra forest department checked the mobile phone of the accused, after which the incident came to light. In fact, the officials found a recording in the phone of the accused, in which they were seen allegedly gang-raping the monitor lizard. In fact, the forest officials posted in Sangli forest reserve traced the accused with the help of CCTV footage, in which they can be seen roaming in the forest. Officials who spoke about the incident said that the three accused had come from Konkan to Chandoli village in Kolhapur for hunting. According to officials, the accused will be produced before the court and appropriate legal action will be taken against them.

The Bengal Monitor lizard is a reserved species under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. If the accused in the case are found guilty, they can be imprisoned for seven years. The poison is a type of big lizard. It is also known by the names Vishakhopada, Monitor lizard, Goira, Gheora, Monitor lizard, Bichpadi, etc. Experts call it the 'monitor lizard'. About 70 species of this type of lizard are found all over the world, but there are four species of them found in our country. These are Bengal Monitor Lizard, Yellow Monitor Lizard, Water Monitor Lizard and Desert Monitor Lizard. Of these, the Bengal Monitor Lizard is the highest visible. Usually, people consider the Monitor lizard to be quite poisonous.
