Bhubaneswar: In Odisha, 4 children have died after drowning in mahanadi near Cuttack city. Police informed in this regard on Saturday. A police official said the bodies of the children were fished out of the river on Friday. He said the boys, aged between 12 and 14 years, were residents of Potapokhari area of the city. The children had gone to play near the river on Thursday afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Pratik Singh said that when the boys did not return home till evening, the family members searched for them in the area and saw their bicycles parked on the river bank near Gandhipalli, about two kilometres from the house. He said police were informed at 9 pm and then fire brigade and Odisha Disaster Response Task Force personnel launched a search operation and recovered a body at 11 pm. The body was recovered about a km from the spot from where the boys went missing.

Inspector S Raut of Chauliaganj police station said the search operation continued throughout the night and the bodies of the remaining children were also recovered on Friday morning. He said it is yet to be ascertained how the boys drowned. Postmortem of the bodies has been conducted and the bodies have been handed over to the family members.
