Bengaluru: Nearly 40,000 doctors, paramedics and nurses from private and government hospitals across Karnataka have announced a one-day strike on Monday to support doctors in West Bengal, demanding safety during work. The state's Indian Medical Association treasurer B.K. "Tamam doctors, nurses and their support staff are on strike today," Veeranna told the press. The OPD department of government and private hospitals has been closed for today. Accidental wards are open and only emergency services are available."

Of the 15,000 hospitals in this southern state, about 2000 are run by the government, including primary health centres while the rest are in the private sector. There is a significant shortage of doctors, nurses and support staff in state hospitals. Cities, towns and villages across the state also lack beds and other health facilities as per demand.
