New Delhi: 41 artifacts have been brought back home from abroad after the Modi government came to the Centre in 2014. This is more than 75 percent of the total goods returned so far. This was informed by Union Minister for Culture and Tourism G Kishan Reddy in a written reply to a question in Parliament on Thursday (August 5, 2021). In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Kishan Reddy said that since 1976, a total of 54 antiquities have been brought back to India from abroad, out of which 41 items have been brought home under the leadership of PM Modi.

Reddy further said, "It is a matter of pride that we have been able to bring our heritage items stolen from India and sent abroad. The number of antiquities recovered in the last seven years is the highest ever. Since 2014, 41 heritage items of the country have been brought home, which is more than 75 percent of the total goods.'' He attributed the success to PM Modi and said that due to his tireless efforts, the antiquities of India's heritage have been brought back home. Reddy further said, "I believe that the recent success is due to the continuous improvement in our cultural relations, which have been possible due to our PM's close personal relationship with various heads of state and hence his early return has been possible.''

Reddy also praised the tireless efforts of various government agencies like ASI, CBI. Reddy said, "Since 1976, the Congress government ruled for nearly 25 years, but during this period less than 10 antiquities were brought back to India. It shows the indifference and lack of respect of congress governments towards preserving Indian culture, civilization, and heritage.'' Just a week ago, the National Gallery of Australia decided to return 14 artifacts of cultural importance to the Government of India.
