New Delhi: So far 45 prisoners have been hit by Corona in all the three prisons of the national capital. Of these, 17 prisoners have been cured after treatment, while one prisoner convicted for life imprisonment has died in Mandoli Jail. In addition to the prisoners, the corona infection has reached the prison staff as well. 75 prison staff have also been caught by Covid-19.

So far, a total of 75 prison staff have received corona infection. 15 out of 75 people have recovered after treatment. The prison administration has prepared an isolation ward for patients suspected of corona in all three jails. The new prisoners who are being brought in the Corona period are under intense scrutiny. They are being kept separate from the already detained prisoners. People are not allowed to meet the prisoners. People of NGO working for the prisoners are also not going in this time. Frequent sanitization and disinfection work is being done. Frontline staff has been provided with PPE kit. A team has been formed to identify the corona infection patients.

As of June 20, 2651 undertrials were released from Delhi jails on bail due to Corona. 310 such prisoners have been released whose bail order was to be modified. 1108 prisoners have been released on emergency parole. At present, 60 such prisoners have been released, whose punishment was reduced for some reason. Tihar Jail Administration has released a total of 4129 prisoners till June 20 due to Corona infection.
