Modi govt approves 64.66 crore for 4G network in 7287 villages

New Delhi: 7287 villages in five states of the country will now get a 4G network. PM Narendra Modi has given the green signal to a package of Rs 6466 crore for this project. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has informed about this. As per the plan, 4G network services will be available in these villages in the next 18-24 months. A decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.

Talking about the cabinet decisions, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said that 4G based mobile services will be provided in uncovered villages in 44 districts of five states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Odisha. Anurag Singh said telecom towers and services will be provided to 7,287 villages, which will provide connectivity to lakhs of people. The implementation of the scheme will cost Rs 6466 crore, including operating expenses for five years. The project will be funded by USORF and completed within 18 months from the date of signing of the agreement.

Contracts for delivery of 4G mobile services to identified uncovered villages will be distributed through an open competitive bidding process. The release said the proposal to provide mobile services in remote and deprived areas of aspirational districts of five states - Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Odisha - will improve digital connectivity.
