Year on year Holi is indeed taking a various dimension with changes in culture and the lifestyle. There are mainly two dimensions to Holi festival. The day before Holi, Holi puja and holika dahan take place. This is the religious element. On the day of Holi, usually there is no special puja, but only a playful festival of colors in which people sprinkle dry and wet colors on others and play around in order to socialize with others. The various dishes prepared on the day of Holi include Chiwda, Gajar ka halwa, Gujia, Mathri, Malpua, Kanji vada and many others.

BENEFITS OF DOING HOLI PUJA 
Holi puja is considered to remove all fears of people. The benefits of Holi puja include power, prosperity and happiness in life. Interestingly, Holika the demoness is worshipped along with Prahlad on the eve of Holi. Sacred texts prescribe Holi puja before Holika Dahan. As per the belief these two rituals must be done during the prescribed time as per Panchang to reap the full benefits. It is also said if they are not done during the right time, the performers will only invite misfortune and bad luck.

MATERIALS REQUIRED IN HOLI PUJA 

Before the puja, get ready with these materials: a bowl of water, beads made of cow dung, rice, roli, dhoop sticks, cotton threads, pieces of turmeric, Moong lentils (green gram), Batasha, coconut and Gulal powder. Newly harvested crops of wheat and gram and used during the puja.
