5 Easy and Simple Tips To Quit Smoking

Stopping smoking is not easy and everybody’s experience with quitting smoking is different. You probably know of lots of ways that are commonly used to help people quit smoking. There are patches, pills, 12-step programs and more.
Here are some tips on how to quit smoking:

1. Remind yourself the reason for quitting

Make a list of all the reason for which you want to quit. Make copies of this list and paste it on places where you spend more time like the office desk, kitchen or bedroom.

2. Tell everyone that you are giving up smoking.

Friends and family often give support and may help you. Smoking by others in the household makes giving up harder.

3. Anticipate a cough.

It is normal for a smoker's cough to become worse when you stop smoking (as the airways 'come back to life'). Many people say that this makes them feel worse for a while after stopping smoking and makes them tempted to restart smoking.

4. Get a Stress Ball

When trying to quit, it’s important to find new ways to relax and calm yourself down without nicotine — as well as keep your hands busy. Buying a stress relief ball, silly putty or another simple toy can go a long way towards developing new healthy habits for dealing with stress.

5. Learn About Prescription Pills

Medicines can curb cravings and may also make smoking less satisfying if you do pick up a cigarette. Other drugs can ease withdrawal symptoms, such as depression or problems with concentration.
