We have heard it from elders and various others that having a baby is the greatest joy of life and for some people it is true but it also a  life-changing experience. In pregnancy especially for women, the body went to various changes. Some accept these changes and for some, it is a big cause of worry. It's normal to have feelings of worry or doubt, especially if you are a first-time parent. If you feels extreme sadness or loneliness, severe mood swings, and frequent crying spells, you may have postpartum depression.

Postpartum depression happens after someone gives birth. Postpartum depression doesn't just affect the birthing person. People experience hormonal, physical, emotional, financial, and social changes after having a baby. Some people are not able to deal with these changes.  Every 1 in 7 new parents suffers from this.  Here are the 5 ways to deal with this depression.

Exercise and Meditation: For some women, the major cause of the trouble is body change in such cases daily exercising plays a very important role.   You can add some simple exercises like walking with the baby in a stroller might be an easy way to get in some steps and breathe fresh air.  As per a study, walking was found to be a statistically significant way to ease depression.

Balanced Diet: You might be not aware about this but your food habits directly affect your physical as well as mental health.   Eating nutritious foods can help you feel better and give your body the nutrients you need. Add food like chopped carrots and cubed cheese or apple slices and peanut butter in your diet that enriches your mood.

Take time for yourself: After having a child one feel stuck on the couch breast-feeding, overloaded by work, household responsibilities, or your older children. You and your baby both is important. It is also important to look after yourself. Let your partner or any other to take the baby for an hour or two. And look after yourself.

No to isolation: It is human nature that when you are upset you want to spend time alone and don’t want to talk with other but say no to isolation. Talk with your partner, family and friends about how you're feeling. Ask other mothers about their experiences.  Try to open up to the people close to you and let them know you need help.

Psychotherapy: Even after doing all this if you are not able to cope with this depression then It may help to talk through your concerns with a psychiatrist, psychologist or other mental health professional. You can find better ways to cope with your feelings, solve problems, set realistic goals and respond to situations in a positive way.
