Guwahati: Police arrested five Myanmar nationals from Assam's Cachar district bordering the Assam-Mizoram border on Saturday. These people entered India without valid documents. Briefing the media, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramandeep Kaur of Cachar district said that Myanmar nationals were arrested by the police from the Lailapur area along the Assam-Mizoram border.

The arrested Myanmar nationals have been identified as Thang Khwam Pau, Khen Khan Kham, Pau Havaliyam Mung, Chin Ai Hang and Pau Biak Muang. These people had entered India without valid documents. All are residents of Myanmar's Chin province. Police have also detained a 19-year-old girl identified as a resident of Dimdehluni in Champai district of Mizoram, who was guiding Myanmar nationals. An official of the Cachar district police said the men were on the lookout for Delhi.

More than 12,000 Myanmar people have crossed the Mizoram border since February this year after military operations with the international border in the border villages of Myanmar's Chin state.
