Guwahati: Assam's Himanta Biswa Sarma government is taking strict action against those who illegally occupy madrasas and government lands with terror activities these days. On Saturday (September 3, 2022), the work of removing encroachments started in Assam. Assam Police has said that action is on to clear 330 acres of land in the Sonitpur district. Heavy security arrangements have been made for this.

More than 50 bulldozers and other heavy machines have been pressed into service to raze illegal houses in No. 3 Chitalmari areas in Barchalla, on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra river. Along with this, a large number of labourers have been deployed. The police official said that the eviction action is still going on peacefully. Eviction notices were sent to illegal residents of the area, he said. After receiving the notice, most of the residents left with their belongings.

The eviction and demolition of illegal buildings began at 5 am on Saturday. Demolition work has also been completed in one-third of the illegal area. At the same time, 1200 paramilitary personnel have been deployed in view of the possibility of any disturbance in law and order.
