Washington: Bonded labour has been discussed many times in big forums all over the world and measures to prevent it are constantly being taken. Meanwhile, the United Nations (UN) has informed in a report that about 50 million people all over the world are trapped in bonded labour or bonded marriage. The UN warned that this figure has increased dramatically in recent years.

In fact, the United Nations had set a target of ending all modern slavery by 2030, but instead, according to a new report, the number of people trapped in bonded labour, bonded marriage or bonded labour increased by 10 million between 2016 and 2021. A UN study with the Walk Free Foundation has found that at the end of last year, 28 million people were in bonded labour, while 22 million were victims of bonded marriages.

This simply means that about one in every 150 people in the world is trapped in modern forms of slavery. The President of the International Labour Organization said in a statement that it was shocking that the situation of modern slavery was not improving. Women and children are by far the most vulnerable. One in every five children is bonded labourer, the report said.

Imran Khan says he wants a "good relationship" with the United States, not "slavery."
