A 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit 63 km W of San Antonio de los Cobres, a small town in northern Argentina at around 00:59 a.m. local time (0359 GMT) on Sunday.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the epicentre, with a depth of 168.65 km, was initially determined to be at 24.2289 degrees south latitude and 66.9403 degrees west longitude.

Earlier, An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 has struck Argentina's San Juan province on January 19. The quake hit the west-central province late on Monday at a depth of 10 km. The US Tsunami Warning System said no tsunami warning has been issued for the earthquake. The quake was also felt in the provinces of Mendoza, Cordoba, Santa Fe, La Rioja and Buenos Aires. The US Geological Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 and its epicentre was 27.6 km southwest of the town of Porcito.
