5.1-magnitude quake hits southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 jolted southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge at 0327 GMT on Sunday. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), with a depth of 10 km, was initially determined to be at 52.1656 degrees south latitude and 4.9797 degrees west longitude.

Meanwhile, The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 5.1 quake in Japan near Okinawa, Okinawa Shi. The disaster hit early afternoon on Sunday 3 January 2021 at 3:42 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicentre, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
