5.7 magnitude earthquake hit Papua New Guinea

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake was registered on Saturday in the eastern part of Papua New Guinea. There are no reports about any damage or victims caused by the earthquake.

According to US Geological Survey,  The earthquake hit at 03:19 GMT, 36 kilometers (over 22 miles) northwest of the town of Finschhafen. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 29.3 kilometers.

Papua New Guinea is located in a seismically active zone known as the Ring of Fire and regularly suffers from powerful earthquakes Earlie, An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred 145 km northeast of Kokopo, Papua New Guinea in Novermber 2020. The quake had hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 242 km beneath the epicenter early morning on 10 November 2020 at 2.45 am local time.
