According to CyberMedia Research's (CMR) India Mobile Handset Market Review Report for CY2022, the market share of 5G smartphone shipments in India increased by 74% with Samsung holding the segment's market leadership with a 23% market share, followed by OnePlus with a 15% market share.

According to the survey, the share of 5G devices delivered rose to 31% in 2022, with shipments increasing 74% year over year and costing almost $20 billion to ship.

The report also stated that shipments increased by 12% and 41% YoY in the premium and super-premium segments (25,000–50,000 and 50,000–100,000 respectively).

Market share: With a market share of 19%, Samsung led the premium (between 25,000 and 50,000) smartphone market. Its 5G smartphone shipments surpassed 10 million, growing by 142% YoY.

In terms of brand performance, Xiaomi came out on top with a 21% market share thanks to the success of its Redmi 9A Sport, Redmi 10(2022), and Redmi 10A models. Meanwhile, Poco, Xiaomi's sub-brand, saw a 37% YoY fall in shipping volume in 2022. Shipments of 5G smartphones from Xiaomi increased by a noteworthy 138% year over year.
Vivo held a 14% market share, Realme held a 14% market share, and Oppo held a 10% market share.

Future prospects": For CY2023, CMR predicts that the market would remain challenging in the first half of 2023, with smartphone shipments expanding at a single-digit YoY rate and possibly hanging around the 160–165Mn range.

"We expect the challenging macroeconomic circumstances to continue during the first half of the year. The increase in 5G smartphone shipments remains the only positive development. In India, this year will be significant for 5G. We believe that smartphone OEMs will release more reasonably priced 5G smartphones as time goes on. All of this is encouraging and supports Indian telecoms' hasty rollout of 5G networks, according to Shipra Sinha, Analyst, Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CyberMedia Research (CMR).
