Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suffered a series of major setbacks in the last 2 days after the announcement of assembly election dates in Uttar Pradesh. In the same vein, Dalit leader Dara Singh Chauhan resigned from Yogi Adityanath's cabinet on Wednesday. Dara Singh is the 6th BJP leader to resign in the last 2 days. However, during this time, a Congress MLA and a Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA have also suppressed the BJP.

On Tuesday, cabinet minister and senior leader Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the Yogi cabinet. BJP MLA Avtar Singh Bhadana also quit the party and joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). Three MLAs considered supporters of Maurya, also announced their resignation. MLA Brajesh Prajapati from Tindwari, MLA Roshan Lal Verma from Tilhar and MLA Bhagwati Sagar from Bilhour also resigned on Tuesday.

However, Congress MLA Naresh Saini and SP MLA Hariom Yadav joined the saffron party. Hariom Yadav seems to be in a relationship with Samajwadi Party (SP) patron and former CM Mulayam Singh Yadav.
