Kolkata: A month after the return of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to power in West Bengal, many scary pictures of violence are emerging. The women of Bengal have apprised the Supreme Court of rape, sexual harassment and police apathy. Accusing the ruling party workers of gang rape, the women have appealed to the Supreme Court for a SIT inquiry. In Bengal, violence erupted after the results of the Assembly elections were out on May 2, 2021. The opposition, especially BJP supporters, were accused of selectively targeting TMC supporters.

According to media reports, citing the Godhra case, the supreme court has been asked to investigate the gang rape and killings in Bengal SIT under its supervision. A 60-year-old woman has told the Supreme Court that TMC workers forcibly entered her house after the results of the Assembly elections in East Midnapore on May 4-5. She was gang raped in front of a 6-year-old grandson. The victim said that after BJP's victory from Khejuri assembly seat on May 3, a mob of 100-200 TMC workers surrounded her house and threatened to kill her. Fearing this, her daughter-in-law left home the next day. Then, on May 4-5, five TMC activists tied him to a cot and gang raped her in front of 6 years old grandson.

The woman said she met neighbours unconscious on the second day of the incident. He was then admitted to the district hospital. He alleged that the police had also refused to write FIR. The victim says that after the assembly elections, TMC workers are using rape as a weapon to take revenge.
