Onion prices may fall; 6,090 tonnes consignment coming soon from Egypt

New Delhi: The consignment of 6,090 tonnes of onion from Egypt is going to reach India soon, after which the price of onion may come down in the country. This consignment of onions will soon reach the Nava Sheva port in Mumbai, from where the state governments can buy onions as per their demand. On Monday, the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution have given information in this regard.

The ministry has said in its statement that MMTC has signed an agreement to import 6,090 tonnes of onions from Egypt and this consignment of onions is going to reach India soon. According to the information received from the ministry, the demand for onion has come from six states so far, which include Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Kerala, and Sikkim. The selling price of imported onions will be in Mumbai at Rs 52-55 per kg, while those buying onions from Delhi will have to pay a price of Rs 60 per kg.

Heavy fall in gold and silver price

According to news agency IANS, Avinash Kumar Srivastava, Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs, asked the state governments about their demands through video conferencing on Monday. He had also sent a letter about this to the Chief Secretaries of the states on 23 November.
