Latehar: 7 tribal girls drowned in a pond in the Latehar district of Jharkhand. According to the information received, six of these girls belonged to the same family and all the girls had gone to immerse 'Dali' after the tribal festival Karama Pujan. According to reports, President Ram Nath Kovind has expressed grief as soon as the incident of drowning of 7 girls simultaneously in Jharkhand. The President tweeted, "Deeply saddened to hear of the death of several girls in a tragic accident during Karam Dali Visarjan in Latehar, Jharkhand. In this hour of grief, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families.''

On Saturday, a group of 10 girls from Bukru village had gone for immersion in a pond near the railway line carrying Karama Dali. He further said, "During immersion, suddenly two girls went into deep water and started drowning. The other five girls also went into the water to save them but the seven girls drowned due to lack of swimming.''

He also said, "The villagers rushed to the spot after three girls standing on the shore raised an alert and got into the pond and pulled out the girls. By then 4 girls had died. Three girls died while being taken to the hospital.'' Under the information received, the deceased girls have been identified as Rekha Kumari (18), Reena Kumari (16), Laxmi Kumari (12 years) and all three sisters, Sushma Kumari (12), Pinki Kumari (18), Sunita Kumari (20) and Basanti Kumari (12). The Deputy Commissioner said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the matter.
