Dehradun: During the recent voter verification program (EVP) in Dehradun, 70 thousand names have been removed from the list. These include the names of dead, transferred and duplicate voters. About 4000 people had applied online for getting names added under the program running from September 1, out of which two and a half thousand names have been added to the voter list. Additional District Magistrate Ramjisharan Sharma held a meeting with representatives of political parties in view of EVP and apprised them of the progress made so far. During this, the delegates also gave them many suggestions and objections.

According to sources, As per the instructions of the Election Commission, amendment proposals were received from the tehsils based on GPS location. BLO went door-to-door verification on these, in which voters of all 10 assembly constituencies were verified. About 14 lakh voters in the district were verified by 1797 BLO. During this period, the names of 70311 voters were excluded from the list. These are names that are either dead, moved or duplicated.

4030 people had applied online for the voter list, out of which 2563 names were included in the list. Assistant District Election Officer PS Rawat informed that on December 16, an electoral draft will be prepared. Claims and objections will be received by 15 January. The objections will be settled on 27 January and the final light on 7 February 2020. Additional Chief Electoral Officer Mastuda, District President Digvijay Singh Ramesh Kumar from BSP and Anand Prakash from CPI M were present in the meeting held on Saturday.
