Bangalore: A 70-year-old corona patient committed suicide late at night in Haveri district of Karnataka on Friday. Police said the entire incident has been captured in CCTV. Here the district hospital admitted 70-year-old patients to the special ward for corona patients. CTV footage shows the man taking the step after everyone else in the ward fell asleep.

A senior police officer has informed that Shakhas belonged to the Lamani tribe of Ranebenuru. He was found corona positive on May 03 and admitted to a local hospital. Thereafter, he was shifted to Haveri District Hospital on May 05 after his health deteriorated. The police officer said the body of the elderly man was found hanging near the door on Saturday morning. The hospital says his condition was not critical, he was being given proper treatment and care. Eventually he was disappointed and took such a step.

The state has registered 41,779 new infection cases in the last 24 hours while 373 patients have died. However, 35,879 patients have also recovered from infection, after which active cases have now increased to 5,98,625. Karnataka is currently the second most affected region from corona.
