Mumbai: The 17th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) was inaugurated on Sunday by Union Minister Piyush Goyal. The festival runs for seven days and features 400 films from around the world.

The Minister spoke at the Nehru Centre Auditorium about the value of small-budgeted-movies' like 'The Kashmir Files,' which bring in good money while also telling a true tale.  The Minister emphasised the importance of our artists in shaping the country's vision. "You sow new ideas that give the country a fresh perspective. You all have a role as messengers in your own manner, and your messages are delivered in a variety of methods, including television, over-the-top (OTT), and feature films. You not only provide entertainment, but you also help to bring the country together. You help to bring the country together as one "he stated

He went on to say that animation movies play a big part in today's society, suggesting, "We must devote greater attention to animation films in the coming days. Animation offers a plethora of possibilities for communicating a message to the next generation. I'd like to see big studios like Disney, Warner Brothers, and Marvel Studios come to India."

"You have a big contribution to the future of this country, your commitment to art, culture, tradition, heritage.. to history and legacy, our values.. your contribution to various parts of life is extremely essential," he said, thanking the filmmakers for creating a vision for the country.  He also commended the many artists in attendance for encouraging more regional films and discussed the benefits of international production firms filming films in India.
