Ahmedabad: Another state government has announced an increase in Dearness Allowance for its employees and pensioners. The Gujarat government has announced an 11 percent hike in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for its state employees and pensioners. The decision has also been implemented from July 1.

At present, state employees and pensioners working under the Government of Gujarat are getting the benefit of 17% Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief (DA/DR). DA and DR have been increased to 28 percent from July 1. According to media reports, 9.61 lakh state employees and 4.5 lakh pensioners will benefit from the hike in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief. September's salary will be linked to 28 percent Dearness Allowance. The arrears for the month of July will be paid in the month of October, while the arrears for the month of August will be paid in January 2022.

After the hike in Dearness Allowance, the burden on the exchequer has increased by Rs 378 crore every month. State that the Central government had decided to increase dearness allowance and dearness relief in July. It was frozen at 17 percent from January 2020 to June 2021 due to corona. It was increased by 11 percent to 28 percent in July. The central government's decision has benefited 60 lakh pensioners and 52 lakh central employees.
