A massive fire broke out on the 13th floor of a multi-story building on Kolkata's Strand Road. In this incident, 9 including 4 firemen lost their lives. The building which is on fire belongs to the railway. Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that people have lost their lives in the incident of 9 people including 4 firefighters, 2 railway personnel, and a police ASI. My sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. Mamata Banerjee's government has announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased. At the same time, the PMO said, PM Narendra Modi, has approved Rs 2 Lakh aid for families of Kolkata fire victims from the PM National Relief Fund. 50,000 rupees are given to seriously injured people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the incident. Prime Minister Modi tweeted on the morning of Tuesday (March 9), people have died due to a fire tragedy in Kolkata. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. The injured should be cured at the earliest. In the middle of the night, CM Mamata Banerjee reached the scene: where soon after the discovery of this, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the spot. Apart from CM Mamta, ministers Sujit Bose and Firhad Hakim also reached the spot. While visiting the scene, Chief Minister Mamata said "It is very sad. The family of each deceased is going to be given Rs 10 lakh aid and a family member will be given a government job." Mamata Banerjee said that 7 of our people have been killed (now 9), out of which 4 were firefighters. Those who wanted to reach the spot quickly i.e. 13th floor via a lift. But the current came in the lift. Which led to this incident.

CM Mamata accuses Railway of negligence: Mamata Banerjee said, this building is of Railways. This is their responsibility but they are unable to provide a map of the building. Our fire department asked the railway people to get a map of the building to go to the building, but no help was done. I do not want to do politics on this tragedy. It has been learned that the building where the fire is located, has zonal offices of Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway and a computerized ticket booking center on the ground floor. A high-level team has been formed by the Railways to investigate the causes of the fire, said Manoj Joshi, General Manager of Eastern Railway. We will cooperate with the state in any investigation.

Manoj Joshi said the fire has affected an important location of the passenger reservation system. The service has been suspended. It is about to be recovered again through the disaster recovery system through CRIS. Which contains backup data. He said that railway officials were present there, efforts were being made to do what was necessary. Perhaps no map would have been made immediately available had railway staff members been present to guide the building.
