Kathmandu: Overnight rains in three remote villages in the central region of neighboring country Nepal have caused massive destruction. Nine people have lost their lives due to landslides after the rains, while 22 others are being reported missing. A senior government official has given information in this regard on Sunday. According to a report in My Republika, a landslide occurred in Nagpuj, Bhirkharka Newar Tola villages in the Sindhupalchowk district, about 120 km east of Kathmandu city late Sunday night.
According to the report, the villagers were in deep sleep when this incident happened. Giving information, the chief officer of the District Police Office has said that seven bodies have been recovered from the spot, while two bodies have been recovered from the Bhotekoshi Sunkoshi rivers. He has further told that all the victims have been identified.
He said that 22 people have gone missing in the landslide in Ghumthang area of Bahraibis municipality. The official said that the damage caused by the landslide has not been known yet. According to preliminary estimates, 11 houses in three villages have been destroyed. A joint team of Nepal Army, Nepal Police Armed Police Force has been deployed for relief and rescue operations.
