We all are excited for Diwali. The festival of lights, sweets and outfit begins with  Dhanteras. Dhanteras  is a very big and most important festival of the year which is celebrated all over India by Hindus. People celebrate this festival with great grandeur and enthusiasm.  Diwali season starts from Dhanteras and it ends on Bhaiya Dooj. Dhanteras is celebrated on the Trayodashi tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik Month. As per Drik Panchang, this year, the sacred festival of Dhanteras is going to be celebrated on both days October 22 and 23, 2022.
 
Why Dhanteras is celebrated
 
 Dhanteras is made up of two words "Dhan" means prosperity and teras means thirteen date in hindi. On this day, people pray to Goddess Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, seeking her blessings. On this day, ardent devotees worship Goddess Laxmi and pray for her blessings. Various things are considered auspicious and inauspicious on Dhanteras. Here are some things which you should avoid not doing on Dhanteras as per some belief.
 
  1. Don’t lend money or borrow money on the day.\
  2. Do not buy items made of glass, aluminium and iron
  3. Do not buy items like scissors, knives, and pins is believed to bring bad luck to the family.  
  4. Avoid purchasing things with black color.
  5. Do not skip purchasing, these Utensils are seen as a symbol of prosperity and you can buy electronic item on Dhanteras.
  6. Consuming liquor and non-vegetarian foods needs to be avoided.
  7. Do not speak ill of the people whom you do not like and exercise a good control over your tongue.
  8. Do not make any bill payments on Dhanteras. Even avoid activities like paying back loans on this day or borrowing money from others. 
  9. Decorate your home with lighting and diyas and do not let any corner be in darkness.
