A Big No No to these things in New York
A Big No No to these things in New York

Visiting   to one of the most high-priced cities in the world doesn’t have to burn a hole in your wallet. There are plenty of sightseeing, dining, drinking and cultural activities to take advantage of. There are even affordable places to hit the pillow if you search outside the obvious. Before we tell you what you should do, here’s five things to avoid.

NEW YORK DON’TS

1. Don’t use ATMs in bars and bodegas. They come with a hefty fee, and possibly a contagious disease. McDonald’s ATMs only charge 99c.

2. Ladies, don’t book a manicure/blow-dry/massage service at the hotel. There are nail bars, massage stops and cheap blowouts everywhere. Everywhere! See thedrybar.com

3. Accept nothing from a stranger in the street. That goes for stickers, CDs and free hugs. That CD, it’s blank. And a hug is a sure way into your back pocket.

4. Don’t pay for a Statue of Liberty Tour. You’ll get a great view of it as you whiz by on the (free) Staten Island Ferry.

5. Avoid shopping in Soho – if not for the crowds alone – and head to Century 21 for big designer gear discounts.
