FIFA has always been a hot topic during the season. Each and every news about it creates buzz among the fans. This year also people are eagerly waiting for FIFA world cup. FIFA fans remember every moment that took place in the FIFA. So, we thought why not to get a flashback of FIFA 2006.

I think everyone remembers this incident from 2006, but those who don’t know anything about it let me take you a few years back. During a match in world cup 2006 final between France and Germany. France is so close to the win but meanwhile, an incident took away the trophy from them.

French legend Zinedine Zidane headbutted Italian defender Marco Materazzi in the 110th minute of the match. Noone knew the reason why Zidane become aggressive while the match was going on. Later on, there were rumours that Materazzi said wrong about Zidane’s mother, but Materazzi refused, he said I cannot say anything wrong about anyone’s mother when I lost mine in my childhood.

Zidane later apologised for this but he said that he has no regrets of doing this. Zidane was sent off for his headbutt as France lost the plot, and Italy won the final 5-3 on penalties.

FIFA issued a fine and a two-match ban for Materazzi, while Zidane received a three-match ban and a fine. Since Zidane had already retired, he voluntarily served three days of community service on FIFA’s behalf as a substitute for the match-ban.
