ANILA: President Donald Trump is well-known for his long, hostile, handshakes with world cream of the crops. But in an international summit ASEAN-2017 in the Philippines on Monday, he struggled momentarily with a special kind of handshake. President Trump, in Manila, was the opening ceremonies of the Association for Southeast Asian Nations conference, which started with pageantry and a group photo of the top leaders. Then, the presenter uttered that it was time for the leaders to take part in the "time-honored" ASEAN handshake. It was a cross-body exercise, throughout which each leader extends their right arm over their left and shakes the opposite hands of those next to him. img The announcer's directives momentarily mystified president Trump, who at first just crossed his hands in front of him. After that, looking around, he moved to the top leaders and just extended his arms outward, only to get that wasn't quite right either. Then Trump expressed amusement, crossed his arms and moved to the correct sides. He made a face at first, particularly when bending down to reach the hands of the shorter leaders next to him, including Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. And after, with a larger-than-life smile, he enthusiastically gripped the top leaders' hands.
