Ottawa [Canada], July 4 (NT): Contaminated Australian opener David Warner, who has been handed over a year ban from domestic and international cricket for his alleged involvement in the ball-tampering scandal against England, is going to captain Winnipeg Hawks in the Global T20 Canada tournament.

Warner was handed over the responsibility after the appointed captain Dwayne Bravo quitted the rest of the tournament.

The 31-year-old and the left-hand batsman, who is also banned from holding any headship position for Australian cricket, was previously captain in Indian Premiere League Franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad to the title victory in 2016.

Apart from this he has led Kangaroo team for three one day internationals and nine T20 internationals where he won all the matches except for one T20I against India.

Worth mention here the Global T20 Canada league is his first tournament since his suspension following the ball-tampering incident.

The attacking batsman had asserted that he would be looking to get back in the rhythm. He also assured that he is giving his 100% to the game.

Till now Warner has delivered a below-average performance in the tournament scoring 1, 4, and 1 in three matches played.
