After the case of sexually exploiting the girl child in Muzaffarpur in Bihar and in the Shelter Home of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, the central government has ordered the audit of 9,000 institutions, in which the orphans and children evicted from the house are living. The audit report is to be submitted in the next two months.
Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi told that she has asked the National Child Rights Protection Commission (NCPCR) to conduct social audit of child protection institutions. These institutions will have to report within the next 60 days. The Paraphoma is being prepared for this. The minister said that the new paraparama will be different from the general checklist.
In this audit the full investigation will also be done about the NGOs running these institutions. There are a total of 9,462 child protection institutions across the country. Of these, 7,109 institutions are registered with the government. However, most of the money is given by governments to run these institutions. State governments often assign responsibility to NGOs for this.
Recently, Bihar High Court has given 2 weeks time to Probe agency CBI to prepare a report on Muzaffarpur shelter home case. Also, court has asked state govt to provide details on rehabilitation of the inmates of shelter home, as Lalit Kishore (Advocate General, Patna High Court) told the news agency ANI on Muzaffarpur shelter home case.
