NEW DELHI: The air quality continued to get worse in the national capital Delhi on Friday. Thick smog engulfed the city, with AQI plunging to hazardous in a number of places.

Reports suggested that the worst AQI was recorded at Wazirpur's Delhi Institute of Tool Engineering. It was 663 on Thursday morning. The AQI was hazardous also in Satyawati and Anand Vihar.

In Delhi's Anand Vihar AQI was recorded at 585, while area around US Embassy at 467 and RK Puram at 343 - all fall under 'Hazardous' category in Air Quality Index (AQI).

Worth mention here Delhi recorded its worst air quality day after Diwali on Thursday. Authorities sprinkled water in ITO, Rohini, Dwarka, Ring Road and other areas of the national capital to decrease dust pollution.

The water sprinkling drive will carry on for the next few days as part of anti-pollution measures. the official said.

The Supreme Court-appointed Environment Protection Authority onThursday stated that it was closely monitoring the situation and if the pollution shows a rising trend then emergency measures will be imposed in the national capital.

The emergency measures would be implemented as set under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

It is noted that under the GRAP, stringent actions are implemented based on the air quality of the city. The measures like banning entry of heavy vehicles and odd-even scheme are executed  if the air quality falls to severe plus emergency category.
