Amritsar Train Accident: Death toll rises to 61, 8 trains cancelled

Amritsar: In a dreadful happening in Punjab on Friday, 72 died who went to Rawan Dahan on Dussehra including women and children. They were cut down to death by a speeding train while they were watching the burning of Ravan effigy at an event. Punjab Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu was the chief guest in the event. Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu visited Civil Hospital in Amritsar where injured have been admitted after the Amritsar Train Accident yesterday.

8 trains have been cancelled, 5 trains diverted while 10 trains short-terminated and 5 trains short-originated today between due to Amritsar Train Accident between Amritsar & Manawala yesterday, as ANI reported.

Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu at Civil Hospital on horrible Accident said that it was a sad and an unfortunate incident. He added that it is necessary to understand that it was an accident. He also asserted that there has been negligence but it was never intentional or motivated.

The mishap held near Joda Phatak area of Choura Bazar near Amritsar. The train was en route from Jalandhar to Amritsar. Reports suggested that Over 700 people had gathered to witness the burning of the fire-filled effigy of Ravana.
