Amritsar: Dalbir Singh who played the role of Ravan in a Ramlila in the city during Dussehra celebrations, died in Amritsar Train Accident, yesterday in which death toll raised to 61 while 77 injured. Dalbir Singh’s mother appealed to the PM Modi led government to provide a job to his daughter-in law. She also has an 8-month old baby.

This is not a case of a train causing an accident at an unmanned crossing and People were watching Dussehra celebrations standing on the tracks. They probably did not hear and see the train approaching.  As police commissioner Amritsar S S Srivastava reported.

Worth mention here a five foot wall of the railways separates the railway tracks and the empty plot where Dussehra was celebrated. People were watching the Ravana burning from the tracks which are on a height to get a better view.

The accident took place at jora phatak or twin railway crossing which is about 400 feet away from the spot where people were standing on the tracks to watch Dussehra.

At the time of accident the railway crossing gates were closed and the crossing was manned.The event was organised by Saurabh Mithu Madaan, the son of a Congress municipal corporator. Mithu Madaan is of the Navjot Singh Sidhu group in the Amritsar Municipal Corporation.

Meanwhile 8 trains have been cancelled, 5 trains diverted, while 10 trains short-terminated and 5 trains short-originated today following Amritsar Train Accident which happened between Amritsar & Manawala yesterday.
