Talking about her book, the Milkman tells the coming-of-age story of a young girl's affair with an older man who set in an unspecified city during the gory "Troubles" of Northern Ireland. It is a narrative of brutality, sexual encroachment and resistance threaded with sarcastic humour. Set in a society divided against itself, Milkman sees the sights of the insidious forms oppression can take in everyday life.
