India's star shuttler Saina Nehwal signed off with the Bronze medal at the ongoing 18th Asian Games after losing to Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying in women's singles semifinal. Saina lost by 21-17, 21-14. Worth mention here this is India's first individual Badminton medal in Asian Games since 1982.

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore Minister of State (I/C) Youth Affairs and Sports, MoS (I/C) Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of India, who was Olympic medalist and Military Man took the micro-blogging website Twitter and greeted the maiden achievement  attained by  Nehwal as saying –

“FOR THE FIRST TIME IN #ASIANGAMES, we have won a medal in women's singles Badminton!

@NSaina clinches a bronze, and ends our dry spell! Proud of you and your achievement”.

Saina’s medal is historic because no female Indian shuttler had bagged a medal at the Asian Games prior to this edition.

Taking about the records India won a medal at the Asian Games in badminton’s individual event after 36 years. In 1982, the renowned Syed Modi won an individual medal from Asiad. Overall India has won eight medals in badminton in Asian Games 2018 out of which six came in team events.

On a related note the other gem of Indian badminton PV Sindhu has also made it to the semi-finals also assured India of another medal.
