Breda, Netherlands: World Champions Australia crushed India 3-1 by shoot-off following both teams were protected at 1-1 in guideline time to settle their second consecutive Champions Trophy hockey title here on Sunday.

It was a high voltage fight between the two finalists of last season but once again Australia came out on the crown in the shoot-out to settle their 15th Champions Trophy hockey title.

India, however, had to contend with a consecutive runners-up finish after failing to get past the Kookaburras in what was the 37th and final edition of the tournament.

In the 24th minute Australians took the lead through a penalty corner conversion by Blake Govers, but India drew equivalence in the 42nd minute in the course of a field strike by young Vivek Sagar Prasad.

A 1-1 scoreline was what the both teams could deal with in the regulation time and similar to last year, the final went into the shoot-off.

Australia side came out on top in the head to head clash, courtesy goalkeeper Tyler Lovell, who dispossessed three saves to turn out to be the hero of the game.

Worth mention here Hosts Netherlands settled the bronze medal. They defeated Olympic champions Argentina 2-0 in the third-fourth place play-off match earlier in the day.
