Bangalore (Karnataka) [India], November 20 (NT): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday charged Congress leader Shashi Tharoor of politicizing the win of currently-crowned Miss World, Manushi Chhillar.

BJP leader S. Prakash stated, "Mr. Shashi Tharoor who brands himself as an intellectual, he is politicizing her achievement even here. Let us compliment her and not politicise it and make fun of her achievement."

Saying that those in public life should "be very cautious," Prakash told hullabaloo should end now that Tharoor has apologized for his remark.

"I'm happy that he has apologized and deleted the tweet. I think the controversy should end here," Tharoor tweeted

Manushi Chhillar's win at the Miss World 2017 pageant in China on Saturday, Tharoor had written on his tweeter handle, "What a mistake to demonetize our currency! BJP should have realized that Indian cash dominates the globe: look, even our Chhillar has become Miss World!"

On the other hand, the tweet continually backfired on Tharoor, when Twitteratis criticized him for comparing Manushi's surname to 'loose change'.

In one more tweet, Tharoor issued an apology, saying, "Guess the pun IS the lowest form of humour, & the bilingual pun lower still! Apologies to the many who seem to have been righteously offended by a light-hearted tweet today. Certainly no offence was meant to a bright young girl whose answer i've separately praised. Please: Chill!." (NT)
