Tripura chief minister-designate BJP’s Biplab Kumar Deb interacted with the media on Wednesday. He spoke about his plans regarding Tripura after he assumes office as chief minister of the state.

Deb was named as the chief ministerial designate for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a meeting of newly elected MLAs with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday.

He said that Tripura requires special attention now with a focus on health and education.

“My main focus will be on good governance, health, education. Tripura, for now, will require some special attention. I will take advice from Manik Da (former CM) as he has governed the state and is experienced,” said Biplab Kumar Deb.

He even mentioned about seeking guidance from CPM’s Manik Sarkar, whom Deb has dethroned in the Tripura state assembly election. It is well-known that BJP and CPM are ideologically hostile.

The statement comes after incidents where BJP workers allegedly demolished Russian Communist leader Vladimir Lenin’s statue in Belonia, a town in south Tripura. Several other incidents were reported where BJP allegedly burnt CPM offices and resorted to violence. BJP has formed a government in the state and after registering an unprecedented victory in the state swiping off the 25-year-old left rule.
