Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], Dec 18 (NT): Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) vital contender and Gujarat deputy chief minister, Nitinbhai Patel, on Monday uttered confidence that his party would keep hold of the state.

In the verbal communication to ANI, Patel said, "Ultimately, the BJP is going to register victory. It is leading almost everywhere now."

Nitinbhai Patel is the BJP contender from the Mahesana seat and is pitted in opposition to Congress' Jivabhai Patel, who was placed at the position of the MP in 2004.

In 2012 elections, he contested in opposition to 31 candidates and elected as MLA from Mahesana district.

The counting of votes for 182 constituencies in Gujarat which commenced on Monday at 8 am is in progress.

The saffronBJP has crossed the half-way spot in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly polls.

The party is now on the brink to form the government in both the states, even as the early trends show the Congress party giving a tough fight to it.

On the other hand, the early trends are likely to BJP win as saffron Party leading on 101 seats while Congress on 76. (NT)
