Baghdad: 26 killed, 90 injured in double suicide bombing attack

Baghdad: A double suicide bombing attack killed 26 people in Baghdad on Monday, officials said, it is the second such attack in the Iraqi capital in three days.

The explosions rocked at Sahet al-Tayaran (Aviation Square) in the center of the Iraqi capital as per the reports of a spokesman Saad Maan for the Interior Ministry.

The blasts took place near a meeting for construction workers, as witnesses said.

Dr. Abdel Ghani al-Saadi, health chief for east Baghdad, reported that 26 dead and 90 wounded in the terrible blast.

"Two suicide bombers blew themselves up in Tayyaran Square in central Baghdad," stated General Saad Maan, talking head for the Joint Operations Command in which the army and the police includes.

Tayaran Square is an active center of commerce and a place where day laborers meet in the early morning waiting for jobs. Now it has been the spot of noxious attacks in the recent months.

An AFP photographer at the site of the bombing attack said various ambulances had reached there and security forces had been deployed in large numbers.

There was no direct claim of responsibility, but most such attacks in Iraq are happened due to the work of the Islamic State jihadist outfit.
