In an unfortunate event, nine students lost their lives in a road accident on Saturday. The students were crossing the National Highway 77, a busy highway when a Mahindra Bolero SUV hit them.

The scene outside the school became horrific in a few seconds as body parts and blood covered the road. The road connects Muzaffarpur to northern Bihar and is quite busy with vehicles racing on the expressway.

DSP Gaurav Pandey reached the spot and investigated the crime scene. He informed that nine children have died while six children are undergoing treatment and are critical.

“The injured children have been rushed to the Sri Krishna Memorial College and Hospital (SKMCH). Hospitals in Patna, around 80 kilometres from Muzaffarpur, have also been alerted and asked to be prepared for treatment of the critically injured children,” he said.

The driver left the vehicle near the crime spot and escaped. According to police, the mishap happened at around 1:30 PM.

“A truck hit a woman who fell on the road and ran away. Coming from the opposite side, the Bolero driver, in an attempt to escape the public asking for help, ran over children who had lined up to cross the road,” said a witness.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has announced Rs. 4 lakhs to the aggrieved families.
