"Dada" well known as Sourav Ganguly, one of the best Indian cricketer was born on July 8, 1972. He is celebrating his 45th birthday today.  "Maharaj" as what his parents used to call him when he was a kid. Later  Geoffrey Boycott gave him a nickname "The Prince of Calcutta". He loves to play cricket from a very early age like every other kid, but no one knows at that time that his liking will turn into his passion for the game.

Dada’s mother Nirupa did not want him to be a cricketer since the game was disturbing his studies. Dada’s elder brother Snehashish's insisted his parents to enroll him in the cricket academy. He started his training during his 10th class summer holidays.

Sourav's ton at Lord's Cricket ground was the highest score by a batsman on debut at the ground. He has also been labeled as India's most successful cricket captain. It is well known that his most famous victory celebration style was twirling his shirt. Ganguly had his personal bowling machine installed in his house after he was dropped from the Indian team in 1992.

Sourav is the third cricketer in the world, along with Aravinda De Silva and Mahela Jayawardene, to score a 100 and lead a team to the final of a World Cup. He is the Joint Secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal.

In the initial days of his career, he was dropped from the Indian team since he was perceived to be "arrogant".

Sourav Ganguly retired from the Indian Cricket team, but he is still the Captain who taught his fellow teammates the hooks and crooks of cricket. He is called Dada not because he is Bengali but because he is actually a Dada of cricket. He taught every other newcomer what exactly the game demands from the player.

We wish the veteran cricketer a very “Happy birthday”.
