He was born on July 16, 1968, and made his international debut at the age of 21 in the year 1989. He has delivered many extraordinary performances on the field and achieved lots of name and fame.   • He was born on 16 July 1968 in Khadki near Pune. His father was a groundsman and belongs to a financially poor background.

 

  • Dhanraj Pillay is the only Indian hockey player who played 4 world cups, 4 Olympics, 4 Asian games and 4 Champion trophies.

 

  • He played more than 330 international matches for India.

  • In 1988, India won the Asian games in which he was the highest goals scorer and then India achieved victory in 2003 world cup under his captaincy

 

  • Apart from having a huge fan following in India he also received lost of love and appreciation from Malaysia.

 

  • He was rewarded with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. He was also awarded Padma Shree in the year 2000.
