Born on 4 June 1936 in Bombay; Nutan is counted amongst the finest actresses of all times.

Her father Kumarsen Samarth was a filmmaker and mother Shobhna Samarth was an actress.

She started off with her acting career at the age of 14 with the movie “Hamari Beti”[1950].

Nutan remains the most awarded actress with a record of 5 Filmfare awards for Seema, Sujata, Bandini, Milan, Main Tulsi tere angan ki and one Padma Shri. She earned great recognition for the unconventional roles that she played.

On 11 October 1959, she got married to Naval lieutenant commander Rajnish Bahl and gave birth to Mohnish Bahl in 1961.

Later in life, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and died on 21 February 1991 at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

The Encyclopedia Britannica reads”Nutan has developed a natural acting style under Bimal Roy’s direction”.In 2011  a postage stamp was released by the Minister of State for communication and technology bearing Nutan’s photograph on it.

 No words grouped together and no phrases put together can explain her excellence enough.

She was the epitome of simplicity yet beauty and remains unmatched till date and shall remain worshipped for the ages to come.
