Akshay’s Gold and John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate released on the Independence Day. The content of Gold, as well as Satyameva Jayate, was based on the patriotism which made them suitable films to release on Independence Day. Releasing film on this day paid off and Both films have done remarkable business at the box office and both Akshay and John have recorded their highest day one collections. Gold had collected 25 crores whereas Satyamev Jayate collected more than 20 crores on Day 1. 

On second day, John's Satyameva Jayate earned Rs 7.92 crore on Thursday and it has earned total 28. 44 crore in two days. Akshay’s Gold has also earned more than 30 crores in two days.

Film critic Taran Adarsh shared the box office collection of the film through his tweeter account he tweeted that The Big Holiday results in BIG NUMBERS at the Box office. Both Gold and SatyamevaJayate have won traffic Day 1.  Both Akshay and John record their HIGHEST Day 1 business. The combined total is approx ₹ 45 cr [+/-], which is HUMONGOUS.

Gold is based on the true story in which India win its first Gold medal after Independence. Akshay played the role of Tapan Das who was a part of the Hockey team that won the Olympic medal for India post independence for the first time at the Games of the XIV Olympiad, London in 1948. Satyameva Jayate is a thriller drama which is based on a man who kills the corrupt officers to fights against corruption.
