According to the latest reports the government appointed former CBSE chairperson and secretary Vineet Joshi as the director general of the National Testing Agency.  Vineet Joshi has been initiated by the government to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions organized by the CBSE, AICTE and other bodies.

Vineet Joshi who is a  1992-batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre appointed to the post for five years, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said. 

According to the proposed composition of the NTA, “The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be the Director-General to be appointed by the government. There will be a Board of Governors comprising members from user institutions. The Director-General will be assisted by nine verticals headed by academicians/experts.”

Joshi has been credited with the introduction of the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) schemes in CBSE schools as well as the optional Class X Board exam system. Both the schemes were revoked by the present government during the 2017-18 academic year.

The NTA will take over the majority of the examinations conducted by the CBSE from 2019 in a phased manner. NTA will start its operations with the Joint Engineering Entrance (JEE) and National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET-UG) for admissions to medical/ dental programmes from 2019.

Joshi, at present, is serving as the commissioner planning, power and resident commissioner, Manipur government.
