GUWAHATI:  on her birthday eve A day after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee asserted the amendments of Assam's National Register of Citizenship (NRC) a 'conspiracy' in opposition to Bengalis, alleging their ruling out from the first draft; she was booked for detestation speech on Thursday. The FIR followed complaints by a number of lawyers who alleged that her speech was provocative and could promote antagonism between different outfits in Assam.

Though, All India Mahila Congress leader and Silchar MP Sushmita Dev supported Mamata, asserting: "A large share of the Bengali population here also feels a conspiracy is brewing against them."

As per 2013 report of the commissioner for linguistic minorities, Bengali-speaking people add up to 27.55% of Assam's population.

MP Sushmita Dev made a statement that in upper Assam, subjugated by tea tribes and the Ahoms, there were some districts where the first draft had enclosed 70% of the population. "However, in Bengali-dominated Cachar region, only 29% of the population has been covered," she further said. Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Borah has put forward a memorandum to the registrar general of India alleging "deliberate negligence" in the authentication of citizenship claims.

He informed that shocking verification at 208 NRC Sewa Kendras of 13 districts had resulted in the names of only 10% of the population came into view of the first draft.
