New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC), on Monday, confirmed December 19 as the date for the promotion of Rahul Gandhi as Congress president.

The date to file nomination is December 01. The last date for retreating nominations is December 11. The voting will happen on December 16 and coronation will be held on December 19.

The CWC get together at Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's 10, Janpath dwelling to confirm the schedule for the election to the party's crown post.

The conference was conducted a day after the birth centenary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on November 19.

The CWC is believed to have charted out the schedule for the election of the Congress President, including the date for filing of nomination and the election. No announcement in this regard has been made as yet.

Although the party has time until December 31 to inclusive the whole organizational election process, sources told the process was expected to be completed before the Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017, which starts on December 09.

Once the schedule for the election is approved by the CWC, the party's Central Election Authority will notify the same. The Election Commission has given the party the last extension for completing the internal poll process by the end of this year.
